Kiewit/our design of piles and scaffolding/checking on site

Since 1994, we have been involved in the construction of Hwy. 416 starting at that time with eleven structures at Richmond Road/Acres Road/Baseline Road area, which were being built by KIEWIT. In 1997 we have been successful in obtaining Quality Verification Engineering (QVE) for other bridges and culverts along the route, including the major interchange with Hwy. 401. Our involvement covered 23 bridges and 4 major culverts. The work included: design of scaffolding on piles, checking on site scaffolding and formworks, in-house checking of reinforcing placement drawings, prestressing data and verification of jacking forces and elongation required in the field, followed up by site inspections. During these inspections, we checked the progress of the work for compliance with the design and reviewed necessary changes. Also, we had to witness and certify all the stressing and grouting procedures. Material testing was done by other consultants. Thanks to a good co-operation between all the parties, the project was completed ahead of schedule and officially opened in late 1999.
